My name is Dr. Alex Hernandez, Chiropractor in North Bergen. Today I’m going to show you how to get into and out of the car when experiencing back pain. Most people are not thinking about how to get in and out of the car when they don’t have back pain.
However, when you have a lot of back pain most movements are very, very painful, and getting in and out of the car can be a project. I’m going to show you how to get in and out of the car, especially if you’re alone with nobody to help you.
The first thing is you want to move slowly, and you want to get your body prepared. Come to the edge of the car, you want to turn yourself, and then you want to put some pressure on your legs, allow your legs to do all of the work, once you’re in and in a seated position, you want to swing your legs in and then position yourself.
You want to do the same thing when you get out of the car. You have to do it methodically because if not you’re going to increase your back pain. Again, you want to swing your legs over slowly, come to the edge of the seat, and use the force of your legs. From the seated position, use the force of your legs to come on up. This is the safest way for you to get out of a car. If you do it any other way when you have back pain, you’re crunching the wrong area, pinching the nerves, and then you’re crouching down. There’s a lot of twisting and twerking of the spine which is going to hurt you even more.
